Initial BPPP Experience
My wife and I recently attended the BPPP Initial Training and Companion Courses presented in San Antonio, Texas. This is the first time in our thirty-two year marriage she has attended an aviation course. I think it was partly curiosity and partly the fact that I’m getting older that motivated her to take a chance on an unfamiliar program. She is not a pilot and really has no desire to become one.
After the first hour, any doubt she may have had about the course was eased by the friendly association with the other participants and the professional introduction of the course by BPPP’s instructors. The information she received over the next couple of days was delivered in an interesting and understandable format. Anyone interested in becoming familiar with an aircraft cockpit and assisting the pilot with various flight operations should consider this program.
On the other hand, I have attended many flight training venues including airline, various type-rating courses, professional corporate initial and recurrent training, and OEM programs. Generally, these courses are based on intense advance study, cramming a large volume of classroom information in a short period, and then, followed by fast paced simulator/flight training with pass/fail testing. These are designed to train the pilot to a standard of proficiency in the least amount of time at the lowest cost. Although these programs meet the necessary requirements, they generally lack the thorough “teaching” techniques (and the resultant learning) employed by BPPP’s instructors. I guess the real difference is BPPP’s long term experience with the minute details of the Bonanza, their instructors’ vast experience with the transference of this specific knowledge, and the care they take in observing the student’s responses in the classroom and in the aircraft so that the student learns the airplane and it’s flight characteristics “cold”.
I recommend theses courses to all Bonanza owners and/or operators without reservation. I doubt you can get this level of training elsewhere.
My wife and I plan to attend these courses on an annual basis in order to refresh ourselves on the safety techniques and performance limitations, as well as, continuing to learn how to enjoy the aircraft together.
All the Best,
